How to Volunteer with an NGO in India: A Beginner’s Guide

You do not need money, a degree, or lots of free time to make a difference — you need willingness. Aadi Foundation itself began in 2021 with a small circle of young volunteers, and volunteers still power everything we do. If you have been meaning to get involved, here is how to start.
Why volunteer?
Volunteering changes two lives — the person you help, and you. It builds real skills, widens your world, and turns concern about a problem into action against it. For students, it is also meaningful experience; for professionals, a way to give back with the skills you already have.
Ways to get involved (not all of them are “in the field”)
- On-ground volunteering — teaching, running camps, distribution drives, event support
- Skills-based volunteering — design, writing, photography, accounting, tech, social media
- Fundraising — start a fundraiser or run a small campaign among friends
- Awareness — simply sharing verified information and campaigns from our blog
How to choose the right NGO
Look for transparency (clear reporting on where money goes), a cause you genuinely care about, and a role that fits your time. It is fine to start small — a few hours a month done consistently beats a big commitment you cannot keep.
How to start with Aadi Foundation
We would love to have you. You can apply to volunteer through our form, reach out to our team, or first learn more about our work and mission. Tell us what you enjoy and how much time you have — we will find a role that fits.
What to expect
Expect a warm welcome, real responsibility, and honest work — some of it unglamorous. What you will also get is the thing volunteers keep coming back for: the moment you see, first-hand, that you made someone’s day, week, or future a little brighter.
